Insects

Insects are classified as invertebrate animals , and they include more than half of the animal species; Insects contain nearly 900,000 species, and they also have an important environmental role. It is a vital link in the food chain and has many economic benefits. Like silk production , but it also causes a lot of damage. Such as destroying agricultural crops , transmitting diseases, and so on.

Insects belong to the class of arthropods, where the body of an ideal adult insect consists of three parts, namely the head, the abdomen, and the chest, as each part includes several parts, and it breathes through the trachea, which consists of a complex network of tubes, and its body also contains Digestive system, and circulatory system , and it is worth noting that they are found in all parts of the world with the exception of the two polar continents. [2] [3]

Mosquito body components

The body of the mosquito consists of three parts, which are the head, chest and abdomen, which are as follows: [4]

The head: It is a round shaped part that carries the compound eyes that consist of a large number of small lenses, and contains the antennas, and also contains the mouth equipped to absorb blood in the female mosquito, while in the males it is equipped to absorb nectar only.

The chest: This part is divided into three parts, each of which carries a pair of legs, and the middle part carries a pair of wings, and the part near the head contains the breathing openings. The mosquito's body contains bronchi that breathe through these openings, as its body does not contain a lung.

The abdomen: This part is divided into ten parts, seven of which contain the respiratory openings , and the ninth and tenth parts contain the sexual organs of the mosquito.

Mosquito-borne diseases

Mosquito is a vector of disease. As it transmits many diseases through its blood absorption, [5] the following are some of these diseases:

West Nile virus: The most common way to infect people with this disease is a mosquito bite, and there are no drugs to prevent or treat this disease, and most of those infected with it do not suffer from any symptoms. [6]

Zika virus (in English: Zika Virus): It is a virus that has no specific drug, and it was discovered in 1947 AD, it can be transmitted by mosquitoes and can be transmitted from a pregnant woman to her fetus, as the fetus may have some congenital abnormalities in the brain . [7]

Chikungunya virus (English: Chikungunya Virus): This virus was discovered in the islands of the Caribbean Sea in 2013 AD, as this disease is transmitted through mosquito bites, and there is no medicine for it, as for its symptoms; They are fever , joint pain, and others. [8]

Dengue virus (in English: Dengue virus): This disease is transmitted to people by a type of mosquito called Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which spreads many viruses , and this disease kills 22,000 people every year. [9]

Malaria (in English: Malaria): It is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes, and it causes many symptoms, including chills and fever, and if this disease is left untreated, it may double, causing death, and it is worth noting that in 2017, 435,000 people died due to this disease. [10]

Yellow fever (in English: Yellow Fever): It is a disease spread by mosquitoes, and causes pain, liver diseases , and others, as there is no treatment for this disease, and it is diagnosed through laboratory tests. [11]

Mosquito control

Mosquito control can be achieved through mosquito traps and other methods, including: [12]

Mechanical barriers: through good closing of doors and windows, and the use of appropriate nets to prevent mosquitoes from entering.

Plant cover management: by mowing the lawn regularly, minimizing weeds, and using pesticides .
